Always a Yankee!

My Dad has always been a big fan of the New York Yankees and a talented athlete! When it came to baseball he was a pro- or at least should have been.......
My dad played baseball at North Sevier High School and then received a scholarship to play at SUU or CSU as it was back then.
Apparently, when my Dad was 18, playing in the championship game at North Sevier High School, there was a scout from the New York Yankees there watching him. Back then they didn't have the professional draft like they do now so this was the way the contacted athletes from around the world. The scout asked one of my dads coaches, Dent Sorensen, to fill out the card with all of my dad's information and then get it back to him so my dad could be contacted about his try out in Salt Lake city with the Yankees. Dent did as he was told and then gave the card to his wife Valeen, instructing her to mail it back to the NY scout. Nothing ever came of it so my dad went on with life.....
He has lived a very happy life and bestowed a love for baseball and the Yankees on to his children.
Well, about a week or two ago my Dad received an interesting letter in the mail. It was from his old Coach Dent explaining the story. His wife Valeen had passed away recently and when he was going through some of her stuff he came across the old Yankee scout information card he gave to his wife!
His letter to my dad said.....
"Bruce, Now I know why you didn't get contacted and I never received a response on from them. You was to be tried out in Salt Lake. I apologize. Valeen was to mail this but must have got mixed up somehow. Going through her keep sakes we found this card. I thought you might want to have it for your keep sake. So Sorry, Dent."
My Dad kind of laughed it off as he looked back at what it might have been like. Bitter sweet! Had he gone he never would have met my mom so he's grateful for that. I'm sure he wouldn't trade his life with his family for anything but how. Yet you still wonder what it would have been like to be a New York Yankee!
You aren't any greater in our eyes Dad! We love you more everyday for being the father and man you are and making our mother the happiest woman in the world! You've always been a Yankee to us!
